Only one change has been made to the India squad for the final two Tests against Australia, to be played at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi and HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
Hardik Pandya, who had been a part of India’s 16-man squad for the first two Australia Tests, has been omitted from the squad for the last two Australia Tests. A shoulder injury has seen the Baroda all-rounder drop out of the squad, albeit he was unlikely to play either of the Ranchi and Dharamsala Tests against Steve Smith’s men.
Abhinav Mukund replaced Murali Vijay in India’s playing XI for the second Test in Bangalore, with the right-hander missing out due to a left shoulder injury. Mukund has retained his place in the squad, like Kuldeep Yadav.
Rohit was expected to feature in the Indian squad for the final two Tests, having begun training a month ago and turned out for Mumbai in a couple of their group fixtures in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last week.
Cricfooty surmises that the lack of red-ball cricket might well be working against Rohit, who had expressed keenness to play some part in the ongoing four-Test series against Australia. Rohit last played a Test for India in October 2016, against New Zealand in Indore, where he scored an unbeaten 63-ball 51.
Like Rohit, Mohammed Shami has featured for his state team, Bengal, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. But India’s most accomplished pacer hasn’t been picked either, in the India squad for the third and fourth Tests against the Aussies.
