Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) successfully chased down the target of 161 set by Delhi Daredevils (DD) and went two points clear at the top of the IPL 2017 points table. Gautam Gambhir (71*) and Robin Uthappa (59) struck quickfire half-centuries to overhaul Delhi’s 160/6 in just 16.2 overs, in the 32nd match. Gambhir was awarded the man-of-the-match for his unbeaten 52-ball 71, an innings which helped him regain the orange cup.
Visitors Delhi, who had been put into bat first after losing the toss, failed to harness the platform that had been provided by Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer and ended up with a total (160) which was at least 25 runs short of what was par on the newly-laid Eden Gardens pitch. Samson continued his good run of form in the 10th edition of the IPL, scoring a 38-ball 60 and, in harness with Iyer, providing Delhi a solid foundation with a 75-run second-wicket partnership. The Delhi innings was undermined by the middle order’s failure to build partnerships and take their team to a total ideally above 180.
This was KKR’s third consecutive win and Delhi couldn’t bring their losing streak to an end. Daredevils remain bottom, having played eight matches.
