Manchester City transfers in and out ahead of 2017/18 season

Manchester City have had a good transfer window and on paper, given themselves a good chance of winning back the Premier League title from Chelsea. Pep Guardiola and the club’s hierarchy acted quickly to secure five readymade first-team players ahead of this season. Each one of the Manchester City signings in the 2017 summer transfer window has made a good start at his new club. The players who were expendable, have either been released or sold for good sums of money and the Blues, taking everything into consideration, have had the best transfer window in some time.

July 24: Benjamin Mendy has completed his transfer to Manchester City in a £52m, five-year deal from AS Monaco.

July 23 update: Danilo has become Manchester City’s fifth new signing of this summer transfer window, with the Brazilian joining the Cityzens in a £27m, five-year deal.

July 15 update: Kyle Walker has become Manchester City’s third signing of the ongoing transfer window, with the English right-back making the switch from Tottenham Hotspur for an initial fee of £45m. The 27-year-year-old Walker has signed a five-year contract with City.

Manchester City have completed the signing of 19-year-old Douglas Luiz, from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama, on a reported £10m fee, with the teenager having signed a five-year contract. Obviously, he will be loaned out, with the expected destination being City’s sister club Girona.

Bernardo Silva, aged 22, was the first to sign for the Blues in a reported £43.6m, five-year deal. The Portuguese playmaker officially joined the club on July 1, though an agreement had already been put in place.

Angus Gunn joined Norwich City on June 6, on a season-long loan deal. He will spend the 2017/18 season at Carrow Road.

June 8 update: Manchester City confirmed their second signing of this summer transfer window, with Ederson Moraes joining them in a £34.7m deal from Benfica. This is a British record transfer fee for a goalkeeper, with City eclipsing the £18.9m Manchester United paid Atletico Madrid in June 2011, to bring David de Gea to Old Trafford.

Update: Aleix Garcia, Douglas Luiz, Pablo Maffeo, and Marlos Moreno signed one-year loan deals with La Liga club Girona on August 1. Jesus Navas, who was released from Manchester City at the end of last season, has moved back on a free transfer to Sevilla, with whom he has signed a four-year contract.
