About triple centuries in Test cricket
Andy Sandham of England was the first batsman in Test cricket history to score a triple century. Australia’s Sir Donald Bradman was the second batsman to score 300 and also the first to score two triple hundreds in his Test career. Hanif Mohammad was the first Pakistani batsman to score a Test triple hundred, while Virender Sehwag was the first Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket. Karun Nair became only the second Indian batsman to score a Test triple century when he made 303 against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in December 2016.
Brian Lara and Chris Gayle are two of only four batsmen to have scored two triple hundreds in Test cricket, while Lara still holds the record for the highest score in Test cricket by a batsman.
Virender Sehwag’s second triple century, which came in Chennai against South Africa in 2008, remains the fastest triple century (scored off just 278 balls) in Test cricket to date. Sehwag’s first triple hundred, which came off 364 balls against Pakistan in Multan, is the third fastest, while Matthew Hayden getting to the landmark in 362 balls is the second fastest in Test cricket history.
A total of 31 triple hundreds have been scored in Test cricket to date.
David Warner was the last batsman to score 300 in Test cricket, notching up an unbeaten 335 against Pakistan at Adelaide Oval on November 30, 2019.
