About Asia Cup winners

India are the most successful country/team in the history of Asia Cup cricket, having won the tournament six times in 13 editions so far. They also hold the record for the most consecutive Asia Cup wins, having won the same in three successive times (1988, 1990 and 1995). They are also the defending champion going into the 14th edition of the tournament, which is set to take place in the UAE for the third time.

Sri Lanka have been a five-time winner of the competition, with Pakistan being champion of Asia twice. Bangladesh have reached the Asia Cup final twice.

Two of the three teams to have won the Asia Cup, India and Pakistan have not played all editions of the Asia Cup.

For instance, India pulled out of the 1986 Asia Cup due to the political tensions with neighbouring Sri Lanka, who were the tournament host. And Pakistan did likewise in 1990, when India were the host of the tournament. In 1993, the tournament was abandoned due to the political tensions between India and Pakistan.
