The first-ever franchise cricket league to be held in North America, the ICC-approved Global T20 League has drawn a great deal of attention since being announced by Cricket Canada in February. By far the major reason for the buzz and excitement is the participation of some big names in world cricket, namely the Australian duo of David Warner and Steve Smith, a vast majority of West Indies cricketers, ace Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga and many more.
As always, given the popularity of cricket in India, the question is whether such a league tournament will be broadcast to the Indian audience.
Cricfooty can tell you that Star Sports has bought the broadcasting rights for the Global T20 League, which it will broadcast on the Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD channels, while the matches will also be streamed live on HotStar.
Free Sports in the UK, ATN in Canada, FOX Sports in Australia, Geo Sports in Pakistan, OSN in the Middle East, Ghazi TV in Bangladesh and SportsMax are the other broadcasters of the inaugural edition of the Canada T20 League.
The Canada Global T20 League begins on June 29 (in IST) and ends on June 16, the date for the final of the inaugural season of this competition.
With many other T20 International series being played round the world at the same time, this is indeed an exciting time for cricket fans and to those who particularly enjoy this format of the sport.
