Steve Smith Test centuries against opponent:

8 vs England (ENG)
7 vs India (IND)
2 vs New Zealand (NZ)
2 vs Pakistan (PAK)
2 vs West Indies (WI)
1 vs South Africa (SA)
1 vs Sri Lanka (SL)

Steve Smith has almost been Bradmanesque in Test cricket since 2014. He has scored runs in all conditions, against all kinds of bowling attacks and, also, done so with consummate ease. His Test batting average of 61.37 is a testament to his unbelievable consistency.

Of his 23 Test centuries, 15 (!) have come against England and India and he, no doubt, has relished batting in those high-octane Ashes and Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Only South Africa (against whom Smith has played nine Tests so far) and Sri Lanka (three Tests) have managed to keep the former Australian captain quiet. His Test hundreds have also tended to vary in style: his 162* off 231 balls (strike rate of 70.12) against India in December 2014, 141* off 326 balls (strike rate of 43.25) and 102* off 275 balls (strike rate of 37.09) prove that he has the wherewithal to adapt his game to the demands of a match situation.

Smith has made 15 Test centuries as captain and, of his 23 hundreds, 13 have come at home (in Australia) and 10 have come away (overseas).

Steve Smith centuries in ODI

ODI hundreds Venue Aus result
101 (118) vs PAK Oct 7, 2014 Won by 93 runs
104 (112) vs SA Nov 21, 2014 Won by 3 wickets
102* (95) vs ENG Jan 23, 2015 Won by 3 wickets
105 (93) vs IND Mar 26, 2015 Won by 95 runs
149 (135) vs IND Jan 12, 2016 Won by 5 wickets
108 (107) vs SA Oct 5, 2016 Won by 4 wickets
164 (157) vs NZ Dec 4, 2016 Won by 68 runs
108* (104) vs PAK Jan 19, 2017 Won by 7 wickets

Smith’s small number of ODI centuries (eight) does not mean he has been bad in this format of the sport. Yes, statistically he has not been as prolific as in Test cricket but his playing only 108 ODIs and batting only 94 times have to be considered. With age on his side—he is only 28 years old and about to be 29—Smith has every chance of being as good an ODI batsman as he has been a Test batsman.

T20 cricket

Smith’s only T20 century to date came in the 2016 season of IPL, for Rising Pune Supergiant against Gujarat Lions. His 77-ball 101 (8×4, 5×6) was in a losing cause.
