The BCCI introduced central contracts for the Indian women cricketers in October 2015, applying for the period from October 2015 to September 2016. Then, the governing body almost seemed to forget it and did not announce their annual player contracts in conjunction with the men’s for 2016-17.
A year later, however, Mithali Raj and co. have been handsomely rewarded financially, with their annual retainer amounts for the 2017-18 period increasing by more than three-fold from 2015-16. A new grade, Grade C, has also been added to the BCCI contract system for women cricketers.
The retainer fee for Indian women cricketers in Grade A has increased from Rs 15 lakhs to Rs 50 lakhs, those in Grade B will now receive Rs 30 lakhs, a 300 per cent increase, and the cricketers in the newly-added Grade C will be paid Rs 10 lakhs.

Smriti Mandhana, who was previously in Grade B, has been promoted to Grade A, while Punam Raut has been demoted from Grade B to the newly-added Grade C. The number of contracted Indian women cricketers has also risen from 11 to 19!
