Statistical highlights of India vs New Zealand 3rd T20I 2021

  • India completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep against New Zealand as Rohit Sharma and co. beat the Blackcaps by 73 runs in the third match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
  • The home team barely put a foot wrong after Rohit won the toss and chose to bat first. New Zealand struggled to raise their game for the third time in the series and, but for a Martin Guptill fifty (a 36-ball 51) and a cameo from Lockie Ferguson, might have lost by an even bigger margin.
  • The victory was India’s 11th in T20Is against New Zealand, in 20 matches between the teams so far.
  • Rohit led the way with the bat for India with a stroke-filled half-century, a 31-ball 56, punctuated by five fours and three sixes, as he enjoyed another impressive outing at one of his favourite venues. It was his 26th T20I half-century and 30th fifty-plus score.
  • It was, however, not the only milestone that Rohit notched up on the night. With his third six, a pick-up shot off Ferguson for a maximum behind square on the onside, reached a rare landmark of 150 sixes. Only Guptill, with 169 sixes, has cleared the boundary more times than Rohit in T20Is.
  • Harshal Patel became just the second Indian batsman, after KL Rahul, to be dismissed hit-wicket as he, in an effort to score quickly at the death, hit the stumps with his willow off the bowling of Ferguson.
  • Defending 185, five of India’s six bowling options on the night were among the wickets, with Axar Patel standing out with a three-for. His three for 9 gives him his best bowling figures in T20Is.
  • The victory was India’s 18th in 22 T20Is under Rohit’s captaincy.
