Babar Azam has been prolific for Pakistan in ODI cricket since his debut in 2016. He is one of the modern one-day batting greats and the lynchpin of the Pakistan batting line-up.
Twelve of his 16 ODI hundreds have resulted in Pakistan wins and he notched up his highest ODI score (158) against England in 2021. His second-last century, an 83-ball 114 against Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, led Pakistan to their highest successful run-chase in ODI cricket (349).
He followed that up with an unbeaten 115-ball 105 against Australia in the third ODI to help Pakistan clinch a 2-1 series win. It is his fourth ODI hundred in a successful Pakistan run-chase.
Azam is also the fastest to 15 ODI centuries in terms of innings (83), beating Hashim Amla’s record (86 innings).
The Pakistan captain also holds several other prestigious ODI batting records. In 2016, he became the eighth batsman in one-day cricket to score three consecutive centuries as he made 120, 123 and 117 against the West Indies in the Middle East. He’s also the third Pakistan batsman, after Saeed Anwar and Zaheer Abbas, to achieve this rare feat. Only 11 batsmen in the history of ODI cricket have made three consecutive hundreds—a list that includes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of Azam’s contemporaries.
Azam also holds the record for being the second-fastest batsman to reach 2000 runs in terms of innings (45).
